Chemistry Book Two
Sequel to Organic Chemistry

When his college biochemistry class turns out to be much more difficult than star quarterback Freddie Samuelson imagined, his lab partner, Kurt Maxwell, agrees to help. They’re very different a rich kid athlete and a hardworking openly gay scholarship student. But Kurt slips past Freddie’s defenses, and little by little—despite Freddie ignoring his own sexuality in the past—Freddie realizes he wants to get to know Kurt, especially when Kurt helps him through more challenges than their science class. But it isn’t long before rumors begin to fly, and the obstacles Freddie will face may block him from both the future he planned on and the future he didn’t know he wanted.

Biochemistry edition by Andrew Grey Literature Fiction eBooks

A romantic novel, successor to Grey's ORGANIC CHEMISTRY and including, in the cast of characters, the two youthful faculty types who were the leading characters in that book. It is not necessary to read the earlier story first, but enjoyment may be enhanced by so doing. If one reads BIOCHEMISTRY first, it is almost certain the reader will seek out the earlier book. Both are enjoyable examples of the genre. I've read both twice.
Likeable characters and the author handles conversation well.

Biochemistry edition by Andrew Grey Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I really wanted to like this one - football players and geeks falling for each other is a favorite story line - but Kurt and Freddie felt like cardboard cutouts. There was no depth of character, the dialogue was hum-drum, and there were no plot developments or twists to give this any "umph" over similar stories. This is the third Andrew Grey book I've read, and probably the last. His books are very popular, so I'm thinking there must be some that are really good, but I haven't read them yet. If anyone can recommend an outstanding one, please let me know!

Some other comments on this story...

*MILD SPOILERS*
Sex seemed to move very fast at the end, given Freddie's inexperience. And his dad was way over the top, acting like an evil 17th century lord through most of the book, then having a very abrupt turnaround in attitude at the end. Huh?
Another enjoyable book from Andrew Grey! I liked it just fine, good characters and an interesting story. Enough drama to keep it interesting, yet still a college coming of age story. Good sex, not to much, and a happy ending!
It has
Warmth and love, funny...oooh and cute. The story make you feel so good inside. I loved it. Bring on the next one.
I wish the stories Andrew Grey wrote were longer. I just get invested in the characters and it is over. More like a one night stand than a committed relationship. Both have there place, but I prefer the latter.
Andrew Grey knows how to deliver poignant stories. I could not let go once I started reading. My only regret is that the book was too short thus the four stars. This is a story of opposite attracts, poor vs rich kid, nerd vs football jock, homophobia and coming out and how being true to oneself ultimately makes things right.
I am the world's top Andrew Grey fan. I've read virtually everything he's published except for the short stories and novellas. I hate short stories and novellas. I like to get involved with a character, watch them grow, suffer, exult, fail and triumph. I like depth, I like complexity, I love to -live- with a character.

Short fiction just doesn't have enough runway to do that.

So you're left with what Mr. Grey gives you in this book - formulas and triteness. Hunky big "straight" rich football star, shy retiring smaller, but smart and kind, nerd. It turns out that the big hunky football star is not all that straight, but coming out would mean losing his "fame", his family's respect, his entire reason for being (football?). The hunk gets outed, they overcome it, together, and you have your happily-ever-after.

Where have I read this story before? And more important, how many times? Too many to remember. I am so disappointed that such a creative, talented and inventive writer as Andrew Grey succumbed to the pure ordinariness of this book. I, honestly, never expected that to happen.

The only saving grace is that he did, at least, give it a more modern slant - only one of the players on his team lost it when he found out, the others were all supportive. After all, the times are changing. Thank God.

But still, the sheer brevity of this format only allowed for the cartoon outlines of characters, not for fully-fleshed engaging ones. Most other reviewers gave this book four or five stars, so perhaps I missed something? Or perhaps they just haven't read as many quarterback-coming-out stories as I have.
Andrew Grey’s Biochemistry is a breezy, fun book. I loved the journey the characters took me on, and Grey’s quirky pairing of main characters. I read the entire book in two flights in one day (one an hour long, the other two and half,) so the story is brisk and moves right along. This happy little novel was the perfect distraction for me, an uneasy flyer. But you don’t have to wait for a bumpy flight—read it now!
