Fame comes at a price. Some pay with their privacy. Others pay with their pride. Khloe Everest paid with her life.
Determined to get her pretty face in front of the cameras, Khloe Everest fakes an abduction only to make a grand entrance in the midst of a press conference held by Spencer's Police Chief David O'Callaghan.
Three years later, after failing to catapult her notoriety into a long-lasting celebrity, Khloe Everest returns to Spencer upon her mother's sudden death and seemingly finds another weapon to propel herself into the spotlight. Unfortunately, someone kills her before she can make this entrance.
In Lauren Carr's sixth Mac Faraday Mystery, Mac and his friends come up against reality stars, politicians, has-beens, and wannabes. Mac also finds himself face-to-face with an old foe from his past who had managed to escape arrest during their last encounter. Now, Mac sees that his adversary has only become more powerful, and dangerous, with the passage of time.
Intent to not let this killer escape again, Mac and his friends need to put all of their talents together to put a stop to a cold blooded lady killer.

First off, I think Lauren Carr is a great writer; second, I already love the Mac Faraday series of Mysteries. That given, I was not disappointed in this book--it is a terrific addition to the series. Sometimes I wish the "update" type of paragraphs in there could be left out (since I already am familiar with the main characters) but it really is incidental and it is great that just those little additions make the stories able to "stand alone" if you haven't read any of the others. Whether you're familiar with the stories or not, this is a great mystery novel. Even beyond that, it's a fun and easy read with lots of laugh out loud moments.Thank you Lauren for your great writing! Yes, I'm going to start on one of your other series, too; your writing is too much fun and is so smooth I just can't resist!

The Lady Who Cried Murder A Mac Faraday Mystery Book 6 edition by Lauren Carr Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Another excellent read by Lauren Carr. Very twisted plot. Glad there's a list of characters at the front as this story is sometimes hard to follow. Bad guys are really Bad. The use of animals was cute and often funny
As usual I truly enjoyed this book and as usual I was able to guess who the killer was about halfway through the book making me more excited to reach the final chapter to see if I was right. I love Carr's books and always look forward to the next one. In looking for a good murder mystery I know I won't be disappointed if I select one of her books. I consider her one of my favorite authors and would recommend all of her books to those who really enjoy old fashioned murder mysteries. Agatha Christie would be a fan.
If you hate reality TV, as I do, you will love this book. One has to wonder if a certain family would see the similarities in this book which are absolutely classic! This is Lauren Carr's best book yet. It had enough in the story to be current and yet with a healthy dose of cynicism that many of my friends and I share about the political climate in our country.
Gnarly is back in fine form - and the capture of a thief is one of the funniest interviews I have read in a long time.
If you haven't read any of the Mac Faraday stories, you need to start. The characters are delightful and real and help, for the most part, to keep the plots grounded.
This is book 6 in the series. Mac and the regular supporting cast of characters return for a run in with reality TV stars and "wannabes", politicians who are a little too full of themselves and, of course, romance. The view into “reality” TV is entertaining, and I enjoyed following the plot from the point of view of different series regulars. I get a little annoyed at Mac having to constantly refer to Archie as his “ladylove,” it’s sort of … smarmy. That aside, I like the relationship between Mac and Archie, and it’s good to see David finally having a romance. You could read these out of order, although each book builds on the last, and part of the enjoyment for me is seeing the characters' relationships grow.
Anybody else having problems finding something good to read for a low price since tightened the screws recently? Thought I'd troll thru 4,000+ books I downloaded the past year or two and find some worthy reads you might have missed that won't set you back but a buck (not bad when you consider you'd pay over $100 to purchase all the print versions separately). Check out my recent reviews for about a dozen books or so running the gamut from westerns to science fiction, organized crime to technothriller and more. There's still some fine reads that can be had for a small sum and hopefully these suggestions will get you started. Happy reading!
Slow-going at first, the book enticingly draws the reader in with the whodunit mystery of the murders of Khloe Everest and a few other women who are killed in similar ways during different time spans and in different locales. It comfortably picks up the pace as the body count builds, hidden conspiracies become revealed, and other puzzles get thrown in for good measure. Combined together with great character development, tons of hilarious humor, action, and plot development, the storyline comes together beautifully. It's also really amusing how the animal personalities of Irving, Cameron Gates' cat, along with the personalities of Molly and Gnarley, pets of Chelsea Adams and Mac Farady respectively, strongly come out to play in the story, even to the point of foiling would-be house thieves, at one point in the book. Overall, this book was a great page-turner for me. Just when you think that you've got the book figured out, a few more twists and turns are thrown in at the end. This was the second book that I've read so far by Lauren Carr and I was not sorely disappointed. If you are familiar with her other books, I would highly recommend this one as it will not disappoint in the suspense/thriller department. Great book!
Another good one from Carr.
This one starts with a kidnapping. A kidnapping that turns out to be fake.
Khloe Everest is the one claiming to be kidnapped only she wasn't. She set the whole thing up as a media event to get herself in front of the cameras.
Khloe's Mother, a famous interior decorator, isn't pleased. In fact she cuts Khloe out of her will entirely.
Khloe finds this out three years later when her Mother is killed in an accident and she inherits nothing. She does, however, move into her Mothers house and she searches it from top to bottom.
Khloe does find something in that search. A something she feels will catapault her into the media lights once again. A place she really wants to be. Only problem is that someone butchers her in her Mothers home before she can make her big announcement.
So begins another great Mac Faraday read.
This one has Mac, Archie, David, the Spencer PD, politicians, a giggolo, the son of a US Senator, the US Senator himself, murder, some folks who are seriously a few cards short of a full deck, an old case and Mac, Archie and the crew trying to figure it out.
Five Stars.
