I first fell in love with this book about 15 years ago when I started my undergraduate program. I don't remember which edition it was back then (probably the first) but it made a difference in my study habits. As a PhD student, mother, and wife, I felt that it would be essential to improve my study habits as I am returning to school. This author has a real insight into the lives of real students. He offer practical ways of how to study by identifying who you are and what you need to do for you. I think this is a must have for any student...traditional or non-traditional. If you want to learn how to study, this is the way to do it.

How to Study 25th Anniversary Edition (Audible Audio Edition) Ron Fry Patrick Lawlor a Division of Recorded Books HighBridge Books Reviews

Good book.
I wonder if a poor student will 'read and re-read this book' as the author advocates. Anyone who can and will do that is already a good student. There are gems in the book like 'read the questions before you read the passage' and 'the 80-20 rule', but the author failed to emphasis them but simply buried them in the endless list of his structured encyclopedic entries. I wonder again if a poor student can understand a book that is not shown as a good example of good study by itself.
You will benefit from the book for sure, one way or the other, but you will not become an outstanding person in study, the book never revealed the real keys to make you really stand out as a top student.
OK, no one will really tell you the secret anyway, like those books and seminars on stock trading. If you really want to be a top student or someone like Bill Gates, all you have to underline in this book is concept of 'the 80-20 rule' and try to figure out all by yourself how to apply that rule to real life like in study or how to make money.
I purchased this book as a requirement for a class. This is an excellent read. I loved it. I learned a lot from this book. I recommend this book to all students.
Great book!
I found this book after high school graduation(1978) and immediately implemented the skills into my life and study habits. As time went on I was able to increase my study skills with practice and study a lot less and remember a lot more.
I received my Doctorate degree in 1988.Over the years I've given several hundred copies for graduation presents and most of my recipients,about(90%) come back and say things along the lines of "That was my best graduation present I received." I tell the folks that if they will invest a couple of hours in this book they will learn to save half of their study time the first year and alot more than that down the road.
Like many adults who are working and going to school, I had trouble finding time to study. This book changed all that. The ideas in it helped me find out when my best time to study is, and use that. He also has tips on planning projects early in the game, which is important, and for setting times and places to study. I'm trying to finish my degree soon, so I needed a better way to study than I was doing it. All of his books will help with this, believe me. They've changed my life already - for the better. Get the whole "How To" series of books if you can.
Purchased this book for my son's first year of high school. Being home schooled, he's really never had to study up until this year and I wanted something more formal than me giving him my own personal opinion of the right way/s to study. He has read most of the book and immediately put to use some of the techniques and suggestions in the book. I preread the book and I would say that all the ideas and advice are sound and definitly reinforced any beliefs or ideas I had planned to instruct him on if I didn't have any other choice but to go it alone.
